What to See in Morocco?

The "Red City" of Marrakesh is a magical place, overflowing with markets, beautiful gardens, palaces, and mosques. The day can easily be consumed quickly as you wander through the many quaint courtyards and winding alleys of Medina. Feel inner peace at the tranquil and enchanting Jardin Majorelle or absorb the splendor of some of the city's historic mosques. The rules in other countries need to be respected. On that note, you must be Muslim to enter the historic mosques.

Merzouga
Enoy the stunning sunsets, ride a rambling camel across the windblown sand dunes of Erg Chebbi which truly resemble adventure movies made. Merzouga truly lets you experience life in the desert. Although it is a small village located in the southeast of Morocco, it is many people's most memorable part of their trip. Journeys to villages nearby will reward you with African items, such as gnawa music and dance.

Quarzazate
The tiny Moroccan town of Ouarzazate is a caramel brown hued oasis laid in the direction of a clear blue African sky. It is such a scenic location that many movie classics were filmed there. Visit the wonderfully preserved Kasbah that is a UNESCO World Heritage site. Nowadays Casablanca is a large modern cosmopolitan city and the economic capital of Morroco. Yet the former French colonial area still has Rick's Cafe for those who want to rekindle romance. It is the most western-eccentric city in Morocco and some say it is too touristy.

Essaouira
Located just a few hours away from Marrakesh, Essaouira is a relaxing city on the coast. The town's architecture is derived from the French and Portuguese in this charming and vibrant beach town on the Atlantic Ocean. If you visit in June, you may be fortunate enough to see its biggest annual event, the Gnaouamusic festival.

Fes
The capital of traditional culture also is home to the oldest university in the world, the University of Al-Karaouine founded in the middle of the 9th century. It is not Sorbonne in France or the University of Bologna in Italy as some records suggest. The oldest University is located in Fes el Bali. This city, also a UNESCO World Heritage Site, will send you back in time to the middle ages. Check out the ancient quarters with a myriad of mazes in the Medina of Fez, the Tombe dei Merenidi, and the Le Palais de Fes with amazing views of the medina.
